LOCAL SCHOOL GOVERNORS – PART-TIME VOLUNTARY ROLES
Ambitions Academies Trust is a successful Multi-Academy Trust providing outstanding education for students in our 13 schools – 11 based in BCP and 2 based in Weymouth. We provide education to accommodate the full school age range across our 6 primary, 5 secondary and 2 special schools. Our primary sector also incorporates Little Ambers Nurseries, these provisions are at 3 of our schools.
To support our schools on their improvement journey in bringing ‘outstanding achievement for all’ we are seeking new members for our local governing bodies, the Academy Advisory Committees. Ambitions Academies Trust aims for a positive and purposeful partnership with the committees as this is undoubtedly of great benefit to all of the children.
One of the most significant ways you can contribute in promoting this aim is to volunteer to be a governor on one of our Academy Advisory Committees. Whilst there are vacancies on all of our Committees at the current time we would be delighted to hear from volunteers that could support our Weymouth schools.
The committee’s main objectives are to provide support and challenge to the school, ensure that all pupils receive a high-quality education and plan for future development and improvement. The Committee is able to monitor and evaluate the progress that the school is making and support and challenge the Academy Principal and their senior team so that it improves the performance for pupils and staff.
Each Committee member brings unique experiences, perspectives and insights to the team to work together for the benefit of the school. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to young people, make a valuable contribution to your local community and use and develop your skills in a committee environment.
Each Academy Advisory Committee ideally comprises of 6-8 members to cover a number of specific governance roles, these include, Safeguarding, SEND and Health & Safety.
Committee Meetings take place once each term at the school. Committee members are also expected to visit the school each term, during the school day, for monitoring visits and are encouraged to support school events. At the present time, due to Covid restrictions, many of these activities are taking place virtually using Microsoft Teams.
There are no special qualifications needed as the most important aspects of the role are to have a keen interest in the school and a willingness to play an active part in the Committee’s work.
New Committee members will undertake a comprehensive and supportive induction programme. Governance training and ongoing support will also be available.
