About us

Elevate Supported Internships is an exciting new provision for young people with an EHCP.

Currently we are supporting those with an aspiration to work in the construction and maintenance industry to take a large step into the world of work in these areas.

The intention is for young people to be in employed in work following the internship to begin their career.

Vision

The aims of the provision are to elevate young people into the world of work, preparing them for adult life and work. We provide young people with the opportunities to gain the skills and qualification for their chosen area, and also the life skills to maintain their employment.

Provision

Elevate is a small provision for pupils with EHCPs 16 – 19 years.

Classroom based learning is based at: Throop Rd, Bournemouth BH8 0DE

Work placements are sought and placed based on individual interests, circumstances, community and business situations. We have worked for example with local scaffolding, and building maintenance companies .

Students spend time completing an induction period focused on key skills and qualifications (e.g. CSCS cards) that will enable them to be ready for working on sites. The students then spend 3-4 days working on the business site, and 1-2 days in class learning (this will depend on the needs of the individual)

The elevate team consist of teachers and job coaches with vast experience of supporting pupils with EHCPs at secondary and FE. The staff are trained in areas of SEN including Autism and SEMH.

Key Information

Course programme

The supported internship is a 1-year course. The intention at the end of the internship is paid employment (the 1-year internship is unpaid unless the employer chooses otherwise). Young people must have the capacity and ability to sustain a place in work if placed with us.

If required we can extend this period into a pre-internship (of 3-6 months) this allows for more time to be spent upskilling our young people ready for work, at which point the 1-year internship placement will begin.

During the induction period Elevate with work with the young person and local employers to experience different work places of interest and then secure a 1-year placement with them.

During the work placement the students time table will include 2 days at Elevate and 3 days in the work place, (or 1 day at Elevate and 4 days in the workplace in some circumstances dependent of qualifications and need).

Admissions

Elevate Supported Internships is a provision for those with an EHCP only. We support young people with needs such as SEMH and Autism. Young people must be able to safely and purposefully enter a busy environment where health and safety is a high priority due to the construction environment.

Admissions are made through Local authorities SEN team only. Please contact your local authority SEN team for further information.
