OLYMPIC volleyball player Jake Sheaf put Tregonwell Academy pupils through their paces on Boscombe Beach.
Team GB star and four-time British Beach Volleyball champion Jake, visited the boys as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport mentoring scheme, of which he is an ambassador.
Tregonwell Academy works with children with emotional and social difficulties and encompasses three campuses, Petersfield in Bournemouth (for secondary age pupils), Nigel Bowes Campus, Bournemouth (for primary age pupils) and Throop Learning Centre.
Lead teacher Dan Shoebridge, said: “We were thrilled to welcome Jake into school earlier on this year, when the pupils had lots of questions to ask him about competing at the top level in sport and the famous people he has met through his athletic career. Jake is hugely inspiring and talked about how sport has helped to boost his confidence, social skills and self-esteem. On his return visit the boys were actually able to play volleyball with him on the beach, which was an amazing opportunity. He took them through a series of volleyball drills and different variations of the game and they all had a fantastic time”.
Speaking about his role as a sports mentor, Jake said: “The programme is intended to give students the confidence to overcome anything and not give up on their dreams and I hope I can inspire them to do just that”.
Tregonwell Academy is part of Ambitions Academies Trust and has been rated outstanding by Ofsted.
